After heading his own architectural/contracting firm in Havana, Cuba for about 10 years, designing and building numerous private residences and apartment projects, Jorge emigrated to the US. For the next four years Jorge worked as a designer for an important local architectural firm, Hertzka & Knowles. After obtaining his architectural license, Jorge founded his own firm in 1964 and continued his practice up to the present. Jorge’s firm thrived by developing an innovative construction method where all structural and exterior wall components were cast on-site resulting in substantial savings in construction cost. This system was used in about in about 25 different projects throughout the western states.

Jorge was responsible for the design of other types of residential and commercial projects, including the following:

Mixed-use: Opera Plaza, 1700 Van Ness, San Francisco

Apartments: Argenta condominiums (Market and Polk) – 1840 Washington condominiums – 2112 Harrison condominiums – All in San Francisco

Office buildings: 120 Howard, 150 Spear, 150 Spear, 600 Howard in San Francisco –Motorola and Sobrato Companies in Cupertino – Kodak in San Jose

Marts: San Francisco Merchandise Mart extension (Mart 2)

Medical Office Buildings: Mercy Hospital, San Diego - Scripps Memorial Hospital, San Diego – Sutter & Divisadero, San Francisco

Other than Cuba, Jorge’s was involved in projects in foreign countries including Iran, Philippines, San Salvador and Mexico.

Jorge developed the Pueblo structural system of shop-fabricated welded steel components. Pueblo generates substantial construction cost savings when used for mid-rise multi-family residential projects. Pueblo has been used in five built projects and in two projects currently being designed, all located in San Francisco (www.pueblobt.com)

Currently, Jorge has continued his efforts of further lowering housing construction costs by developing Urbanis, an integrated construction system based on the use of off-site prefabricated modular components for which a US patent has been applied.
